For this wine glass, I place the clay right onto the glass. I tried to interlace the clay so that even if a little part detaches from the glass, it will all stay held together. Place it in the oven while the oven is pre-heating, and leave it in another 30 min. after you turn oven off. Wash by hand and pat dry with a paper towel.

I’m planning to have my elementary students decorate turtle boxes! I think I’ll do the first few steps for them ahead of time so they can spend the whole class time decorating their turtles. I haven’t decided weather or not I’ll have them use canes. For my part, I’m very excited to have a new use for intricate canes now that it’s no longer time for Easter eggs (although eggs are still a top favorite!). I bought the tin boxes here.

The canes featured on the Polymer Clay Workshop banner are gemstone canes. I developed the technique because I wanted to make canes without the bother of “packing” the clay to make a background for a flower pattern. To this day I’m not very good at canes with pictures that require packing in extra sections! Once I made a cane, well, as you can see, I went a little crazy!
I think my all-time favorite use for gemstone canes is picture frame veneers!
For my first blog post, I’d like to share my favorite new project. Here is a hollow chicken egg covered with one of my complex canes!
